The legislation was proposed by the former government and the new coalition has decided to only delete children’s pornography from the websites where it is found instead blocking access to the sites altogether. When the CDU/CSU/SPD government proposed the website blocking law German internet users protested heavily. The current government, which consists of the CDU/CSU and liberal party FDP, decided to not execute actual blockades but test other possibilities during the first year of government and now decided to drop the blockades altogether. According to German federal criminal police, children’s pornography content is removed for 99 percent within four weeks after the content is found.
